Since January 2006 we have been offering a counselling service to children aged 8-11 years. This has been effective in meeting the needs of children who are experiencing problems that are distressing and having its impact on their day to day emotional well-being as well as their families.
Play is the language through which children communicate their stories and because it is natural to children, we use it to help them therapeutically. We use Art & Clay, Music, Sandplay, and Puppets.
Some reasons children may come for counselling include:
We accept referrals from Schools, Parents, Social Services, Child and Mental Health services and GPs
We endeavour as much as possible to support all concerned with the child’s well-being. The service is confidential between the client and the counsellor and the same counsellor is seen each session because through the therapeutic relationship trust and confidence can be maintained. Although this is a confidential service, the client’s progress is monitored and then every six weeks a review is scheduled.
The Way We Work
Our aim is to work closely together with you and your child to achieve the best outcome. We start with an initial appointment with you (Parents/Guardians and anyone else who is concerned for the child; (i.e. senco, Teacher or any other referrer) concerning the presenting problem.and to talk about what you hope to achieve. We believe that for counselling to be effective a collaborative relationship is necessary for continued success.
Through the use of play children communicate their story and this is a child’s natural way of expression.
We believe that children must be heard and so they are given a voice through this creative medium.
Our Mission
To give a child a chance
To reach their full potential
Our goals are to enable your child to:
All counsellors working with this age group have specialised additional training in therapeutic play skills and are CRB checked.
